Art Basel is coming up. Black creators, artists, and chefs will gather throughout Miami to fellowship and celebrate their contributions to the art community and beyond. Miami’s Black eateries take center stage this year as throngs of international art fans travel to Miami for its annual Art Week celebration from November 29th to December 5th.

Art of Black Miami is an opportunity to celebrate artists, exhibits, and art initiatives represented locally and abroad featuring significant works inspired by Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond. Learn about the visual artists, discover their stories, and get a new perspective on Miami’s vibrant and unique artistic landscape that touches the Black diaspora.

While soaking up the creative works of Miami’s Black artist community, tap into the Black culinary experience. Here are six Black eateries guaranteed to please your tastebuds.

01
Rosie’s
Rosie’s is a gem in Miami’s Little River neighborhood. Chef Akino West and Jamila Ross run this cozy eatery. It features ingenious brunch and lunch from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Order their signature dish, the Wild Mushroom Polenta (creamy blend of roasted mushrooms topped with a poached egg and garnished with charred kale, parmesan cheese, and herb gremolata), or try the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. Wash it down with Chilled Jamaica (cold hibiscus tea). You’ll feel welcomed—like you’re family.

Red Rooster Overtown
The Overtown neighborhood is the Harlem of Miami and the home of Red Rooster Overtown, the Southeast’s counterpart to Chef Marcus Samuelson’s iconic NYC restaurant. Expect an elegant meal with soul, Caribbean, and Ethiopian influences. Test their deviled eggs (with chicharron, caviar, and mustard), Yassa Ribeye steak, or fire Roasted Wagyu oxtail. The upscale interiors and elegant outdoor seating areas showcase Black luxe life.

Lil Greenhouse Grill
Years ago, Lil Greenhouse Grill in Overtown started as a soul food truck and blossomed into a family-style, healthy-choice neo-soul food restaurant. It’s run by Nicole Gates, a former broadcasting legend, and her business partner Karim Bryant, a retired butcher. This is comfort food with nutritious twists and affordable prices. The Seafood Cake Dinner ($20), Baked Salmon ($22), and Smoked Ribs ($26). Get your grub on, gaze at the painting of the iconic Jimi Hendrix and feel at home.

Hip-hop flavor thrives at the World Famous House of Mac. That’s the vibe Derrick Turton aka Chef Teach, spreads to all. Count the Williams sisters, Rick Ross, and Pitbull among the celebrities who get their soul food fix here. Dig into the Fried Chicken Wings. Show some respect for the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Try the Jerk Salmon Pasta, Aisha’s Veggie Burger, and crown the meal with Red Velvet Cake.

Manjay Restaurant
Experience delicious Caribbean food at Manjay Restaurant in the Wynwood District. Haitian restauranteur Christian Dominique tracks his love for cuisine back to his maternal grandmom, and her essence is manifested in Dominique’s dishes. Must-eat starters include Caribbean Conch Fritters and Toofay (Haitian Ratatouille). The foods of choice are the Fried Chicken Sandwich and Vegan Roti. Sweet tooth addicts love the Benyen; a Banana Beignet served with coconut cream cheese, crème anglaise, and toasted coconut flakes.
